Earth Day

Jealous much?  I'm sitting in my back yard with my laptop, dog, and diet coke.  The past week has been  divine and been filled with cloud watching and cycling outside.  Which brings me back to the purpose of this article - Earth Day!  The aim?  To promote the urgency in which we need to save our planet.  As a very green-conscious person, I will naturally be participating today, and am starting with you.  To be as green (and cool) as a cucumber, you need to first identify how you can change.  Start with little things, like turning off any electronics when leaving a room.  With technology these days, it will only take an extra 30 seconds of your life to turn them back on.  At first, you may not think of these things are making a difference, but little things add up towards a greater cause.  My goals this year are to stop using bottled water, reduce my time in the shower, and buy environmentally friendly clothes and makeup.  If you are finding it hard to get inspired, go out side to reconnect with your inner nature-girl.  She's in there somewhere, it might just take a beautiful day like this to emerge her.  Save the planet!

Megan's Store!

After a long wait it's finally here.  Megan-hearts-makeup, one of my favorite gurus on utube has created a website selling beauty related product, called So Sassy, So Hot.   I started watching Megan's tutorials around six months ago and have been hooked ever since.  She is so sweet, interesting, and GORGEOUS.  I could not believe that she was only fourteen and so successful.  Her ponytail from the tutorial 'Easy Hairstyles For School' has been my staple look ever since she released the tutorial and I have to admit to buying several things she suggested without hesitation.  Her taste in makeup, accessories, fashion, and movies (Blood Diamond!) are impeccable so I naturally assumed her website would be selfsame.  I was soooo right.  All the merchandise on the site is adorable and she has such a variety too.  There are cosmetic bags, Jewry, wall stickers, ID cases, and even car monograms.  The layout isn't the best, but Megan mentioned that she was in the process of improving it.  My favorite items from this website are the Straw tote and the SoHo Swirl Water Bottle.  In Megan's video about her website, she addresses the issue of copying  well known makeup gurus, Elle and Blair Fowler.  They too have their own website, featuring similar things with monographs as well.  I really think if anyone bothers her about that is a complete idiot.  What's the the big deal?  Those haters are just jealous.  So I'm super excited about about the store.  Make sure to check it out!

Mascara, Mascara, Mascara

Terrified.  That was my reaction when I heard about the upcoming release of a vibrating mascara.  Although I am good at applying makeup, me with a mascara wand, or eyeliner pencil around anyone, remains a DEADLY weapon.  So imagine what would happen if i put a vibrating mascara wand near my eye....the next thing you know, I wouldn't have an eye!  But, the thought of missing out on this new beauty revolution was unbearable, so I put aside my fears of being eye-less and comforted myself with the fact that if I wore a patch and got a parrot I would become the coolest pirate ever!  My Mom, less enthusiastic, bought be the Lancome Oscillation Mascara for me at Christmas.  I LOVE it!  First of all, the vibration is so tiny and fast, you can't see the wand moving.  Only in contact with your eyelashes can you feel a ever so slight vibration.  The result is long, full, black lashes, that are completely stunning.  The wand really separates each lash and it's even waterproof!  Over time, this has become my favorite and go-to maraca.  The only issue is the price.  It cost me £28 in the US it's $34.  Although $34 isn't a lot of money, in perspective you are investing it on something you can only use for three months before you are suppose to throw away (I completely cheat and use mine for twice as long).  And you can't return it if you don't like it.  Maybelline are releasing their latest mascara that is the vibrating kind.  Unless you are fortunate enough to have the money or connections to purchase this, I would recommend buying the drug store version, despite how wonderful the Lacome one is.  Hope this review has been helpful!

Fashion Time

Extreme trend alert!  The IT accessory this year is the rubber-banded watch.  This is a watch with a plastic/rubber band with a lego-like texture.  They can be found in any department store, high-end or low-end designer's collection.  When they were primarily released in Spring '09 I discovered my first at a boutique in Florida and simultaneously fell over my heels in love with it.  I must have stared so long at it that the sales person was starting to get suspicious and probably wanted me to leave the store.  Its details were stunning, the craftsman-ship, and the price was extremely high.  Unfortunately, too high.  So I had to settle for the $4 watch from Forever 21 the next week.  It was make of a soft plastic and is bright yellow and gorgeous.  Recently I've set my sights on a watch from Guess that is a similar style.  Betsey Johnson also have a comparable watch which, of course, is absolutely insane.  These are a must and I can't wait to purchase my next rubber-banded watch.

*The Denium Trend*

Let's talk jeans.  Wow, I can't name one girl growing up in the early 00s that didn't own a jean jacket.  Mine was Velcro instead of buttons and was covered in pink flowers - och.  Although as hideous as it sounds it was the trend.  A few years later, jean was no longer publicly accepted above the waist.  Think Gilmore Girls when Louise and Madeline are in shock when they open their latest copy of Glamor.  Then around 2007 jean became popular again with DKNY leading in the biker-chic / 50s denim trend.  Now three years later, the denim style has been re-invented again.  This time it's alot more feminine  and sweet as we head into spring.  Common styles include button down shirts, vests, blazers, and rocker-chic zipper-loaded jackets.  Just open your most recent copy of Vogue, Elle, or Glamor.  You'll see that companies such as Gap, Ralph Lauren, Guess, and DKNY are inspired by this trend.  Gap isn't so much inspired as obssessed - note the 7 double-page spreads in my vogue of nothing but denim madness.  That said, all the clothing items advertised are very pretty so I, surprisingly, will be heading towards the Gap doors instead of the hautes of Levis and Guess to perchance my jean shirt.

OPI Shrek Collection

Who's excited for the new OPI "Shrek Collection"?  My hand is SO raised.  The collection fetchers a deep purple, a baby blue, a baby lilac*, ogre green, sky blue, and a light green.  It comes out within the next month, but unfortunately I won't see them until the month after that.  OPI is extremely rare in London in addition to late.  I'm still not mad because I am planning to get at least 3 of the 6.  OPI, in my opinion, create the best polishes because they are pigmented, smooth, long-lasting, and down-right gorgeous!   And the Shrek theme is just the icing on the cup cake!  Let me know what you think of the collection.

Love, Lauren
