Beach Beauty Essentials....

The beach reveals all, and not just bodies.  It's hard to wear makeup to the beach and it's hard to style your hair for the beach.  Water, sand, wind, and sun will inevitability ruin you look, so there are some essential rules you need to follow to ensure you are looking fabulous for all those smokin' surfers.

Firstly, there is the golden rule of not getting too golden.  Sunscreen is a big deal because it not only prevents you from becoming as red as a lobster, but protects you from further health issues.  Sunblock should be applies generously and frequently without fail, especially if you are swimming.  If have applied you makeup already, and don't want to ruin it by applying sunblock, try patting on the sunblock with a cosmetic sponge; don't swipe, just press.

Generally, it's super hot in the summer, so foundations can easily melt off your face.  A face primer can prevent this, and also reduce shine.  I would also recommend using a powder instead of a liquid foundation.  A powder will matt-ify your face and will not melt too.  If you don't like powder, use a tinted moisturizer as it is light, and less dense.  Lastly, bronzer is always hot for the summer because it adds a healthy glow, without damaging your skin.  Try to avoid a shimmery bronzer, as it will attract those pores that will be inevitable in the heat.

Makeup at the beach should be très simple; anything that goes on, will come off by water, wind, or sun.  Water-proof mascara is a must, because even if you are not planning on swimming, you can guarantee the sea-air will cause your mascara to run.  J'adore coral cream blushes for the summer.  They are so much fun and super young.  It's hard to believe, but lips do burn, and it is so much more painful than a skin-burn.  Chap stick with SPF with hamper any harmful sun rays.  Mac tinted lip conditioners are a stylish alternative.

Sea-air and heat can be vicious to hair, or it can be a gift from God.  If your hair turns out-of-control, frizzy as opposed to 'beach waves' braids this summer will be your BFF.  Braids will prevent your hair from getting tangled, keep it out of your face, plus they are adorable.  If braids aren't your thing (crazy person) then buns serve a similar purpose.

You can loose your tan (panic) if you don't exfoliate before hand.  The reason this happens is because the dead layer of skin will tan and when you shave you take off that dead layer of skin, leaving you with pale, pale skin.  C'est la vie.  So ensure that you remove all dead skin before hand or waxing doesn't take off as much dead skin.  Sand is a type of exfoliate that remove nail polish if you are playing in it.  So bring the bottle of nail polish for fingers and toes to touch up in the evenings.  Ending on a slightly awkward note, deodorant is imperative for summer days or nights.  What's worse than a person with sweat-pits?  Sitting next to someone with sweat pits.  Light, flirty scents can also improve your smell and be extremely seductive and alluring, but deodorant is much more effective.

With these pointers in mind, you can look incredible and, most importantly, have FUN this summer!

SATC2 Review

Friday night, my friends and I got dolled up and went to see SATC2 in the city.  It's funny to see what kind of audience the movie attracts; women in their teen years to women in their sixties.  But no matter their age, everyone was dressed immaculately.  I've never seen such a stylish movie theater, although the last movie I watched was the Hangover, and you can only imagine what crowd that pulls.  The SATC outfits were completely amazing.  Carrie wore a stunning white dress in the first scene, with gold glasses, and the most bi-dazzled gold shoes ever!  Their lingerie is outstanding also, with silk dressing downs, cashmere dresses, and pears.  Some pieces of clothing were a little over-the-top, but it's a Hollywood Movie.  I loved the 80s flashback (one of my favorite parts), but the best scene by far is when Charlotte gets drunk with Miranda!  The only thing I didn't enjoy was the fact that the majority of the movie was in Abu-Dhabi.  It's called Sex and the City not Sex and Abu Dhabi.  I missed New York, but at least Miranda had the 'Sex' covered!

Can't Be Tamed

There has been a lot of controversy around Miley Cyrus's new video, "I Can't Be Tamed". The only thing that people can't disagree on, is how fabulous Miley's costume, hair, and makeup is. Her look is Amy Winehouse meets Lady Gaga - big, bold, and brave. Her corset allegedly cost $25,000! Although I wouldn't recommend this look for a daily bases, using her look as an inspiration for your clubbing outfits would definitely be hot!  Makeup wise,  incorporate a nude lip into your summer look.  For night, false eyelashes or a smokey eye is very smexy.  Her hair can be easily achieved by using a volumizing product and blow drying your hair up-side-down.  And for your summer wardrobe, be sure to include a cross-tie leather belt, best worn with a white shirt-dress.  Sweetheart necklines are adorable, and very appropriate for warm summer evenings.

Style Icon

In honor of the season finale of Gossip Girl, here is a 'How-to' on dressing like Blair Waldorf.  Who is Blair Waldorf?  Let's pretend you didn't ask that, because anyone with style knows that Blair is a leading character on Gossip Girl and a huge fashion icon.  Originally known for her headbands, Blair's style has evolved since the first series.  Out with the uniform, in with the knee-length, cinched waist dresses.  She is the crème de la crème of high fashion and unfortunately, not everybody has an unlimited budget like Blair, so here are the top five things (for less) to imitate her fashion-scene.

Think Audrey Hetburn Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis ~
If you are thinking class, these girls are on the top of your list.  Blair is clean-cut, elegant, and extremely poised.  Both Jacqueline and Audrey had incredible taste in fabrics, wearing silk and cashmere.  They were also always dressed-to-impress.  You would never see Jacqueline in sweats without makeup, and nor would you see Blair in that predicament.  Blair's look, however, is more contemporary.  She wears brighter colors, bolder jewelry, and more youthful makeup.

Think flirty dresses~
It's rare to see Blair in pants.  In fact, in most episodes she's wearing a Sunday dress or floor-length gown.  Most of her dresses are colorful in some way, with bright yellow, reds, and blues.  For day-time, her dresses are usually cinched at the waist with a ballerina-flair bottom, or tight, above-the-knee.  Floral, block, or textured, Blair has it all.

Think high waisted ~
Nothing say chic like a high waisted skirt.  They not only are flattering, but they never go out of style.  Blair particularly likes to pair hers with a satin or silk loose blouse, which counterbalances with the tightness of skirt.  They are also usually adorned with bows, or lases.  This is a classic combination because it is sophisticated, smart, and very sexy.

Think crisp jackets ~
It's infrequent that Blair would wearing a sweater or hoodie.  Instead she favors sweet blazer-style jackets.  Ordinarily darker in color, they vary in material from cotton, to cashmere, to leather, etc.  A single-buttoned blazer shows-off your waist, and, for a more formal look, a double-buttoned blazer can be worn.  Embellishments include styled colors, pockets, buttons, and even tails.

Think Accessorizes ~
My favorite thing about Blair is that she always, always, always accessorizes perfectly.  She has incredible taste in jewelry, such as large pearl earnings, dainty golden necklaces, pendants, and on special occasions, diamontes.  Blair is always up-to-date on the latest bags from Dior or Marc Jacobs, with matching pumps, tights, or hats.  Blair is on top of all the trends, and creates a few of her own along the way.

SATC2

It's exactly one week until the latest Sex and the City movie is released.  (Eeccc!)  To celebrate, I am doing a précis of what I think are the movie's best dressed moments.....

5.
The 80's were these glam girls' prime time.  I think this time period (and its clothes) are fabulous, even though I wasn't even born.  Bellow, Carrie wears a blue cropped top (very popular right now) with classic high-waisted jeans.  Accessorized with neon green bangels and adorable tote.  Of course it couldn't be a SATC outfit without a stunning pair of heels!  These are  Brian Atwood; grey and studded.

4.
How appropriate is this outfit?  Charlotte  is obsessed with Elizabeth Taylor, so much in fact, she named her dog after the style icon. Her sophistication reflects this obsession.  Beneath she wears a sweet baby-pink blouse with bow embellishments and an adorable cup-cake apron.  The baby is very chic too.

3.
Where do I begin?  All these ladies are looking elegant in their oriental outfits and each are so uniquely dressed.  Samantha is shining in a sweet silver blazer and cinched waist.  Carrie looks super summer-y in her asymmetrical dress and turbine.  Miranda sports a gorgeous pair of tribal earrings and matching dress.  Meanwhile, Charlotte looks carefree and beautiful in a red strapless dress.  Why can I never look this good?

2.
There is nothing more stunning than a blond in turquoise.  There is little I can do to justify how amazing Samantha look in this outfit.

1.
Wow.  I can only imagine what a show-stopper this will be, all dressed head to toe in designer goods.  The gold in Miranda's dress compliments her gorgeous hair and the neckline is really pretty.  Carrie looks stunning in this bold, white dress with nude pumps.  This outfit is definitely the best!  Samantha is smokin' in this black, cut-out style dress with white peep-toe heels.  And lastly, Charlotte is pretty in pink with this layered skirt-dress.  Her alike handbag is darling too.  SATC is sure to deliver and I can't wait to see the movie!

Im' Wearing.....Stripes

Outfit 1: Stripes with Ruffles!  The pastel outfit is girly, sweet, and fun.  Toned down a cropped shirt with a layered longer skirt.  Add a pair of floral wedges to make the block colors more interesting,  plus a matching handbag and necklace, and suddenly you're a regular Belle de Paris.

Outfit 2:
This outfit is composed of very architectural pieces.  The black skirt with zipper will make you appear slimmer, counteracting the vertical stripes on top.  Additionally mini skirt + high wedges = gorgeous legs.  All that remains is a flirty pair of sunglasses and adorable bag and you are the cremé de la cremé of high society

Outfit 3:
Show off your waist with the cropped shirt above.  The bright, fun, yellow belt will also draw attention to this area.  The floral skirt adds excitement to a block colored shirt, and the bold, yellow accessorizes will definitely make you heard.

I Choose Vogue Over Dinner...

It was that time of the month again, when I was in my local Giant with a May Vogue in one hand and a shrimp salad in the other.  The previous weekend had been a friends 21st birthday party, so I had bought her an expensive piece of jewelry and naturally had to buy myself a little something too.  I was a little short on cash....OK, a lot short on cash.  I knew that there could be no extra spending on frivolous things such as jewelry and clothes.  This week, money was to be spent on food and toilet paper only.  Which leads me back to my moment in the Giant.  Benefits of buying the meal: not being hungry, saving a tree, and increasing amount of study time by not reading a 265 page magazine.  Benefits of buying Vogue: IT'S VOGUE!  Case closed.  I put my sad looking salad back onto the shelf and skipped my way to the counter with my May Vogue!  Since then, I've read it front to back at least six times, and I am prepared to present my review.

There are only three people in the world I would probably die of excitement if I met in person.  One of these fine people is Miss Sarah Jessica Parker.  So, as you can imagine, I practically passed-out when I discovered she would be on the cover of the May edition.  Her interview (by Vicki Woods) was endearing.  Parker told of her regrets about leaving her children to shoot SATC2 in Morocco.  She also talked about fashion, traveling, and the movie.  In the article she came across as chic, kind, and very sincere.  She modestly dismissed being a worldwide icon, even though I think most would agree she is!  Her photo-shoot was equally as intriguing, with deep satin red and brown dresses.  She looked stunning in each outfit, in particular a dusty-rose Lavin gown with architectural fit and cinched waist.  Hats were featured in three of the five photos, a clear sign hats will be huge in Fall/Winter '11.  Taylor Swift was given a double paged spread this month, which I was extremely surprised at.  The article was well written, and you could definitely sense a more progressive, mature side of Swift, which fits the magazine better.  The hook in this issue was 'Great American Women'.  This included stories of doctors, athletes, New York charity workers, mothers, and soldiers.
Notable shoots include 'Lady Day' and 'American's in Paris.'  The latter was a shoot in Paris with consistent themes of cotton, brown, navy, skinny belts, and rectangular large bags.  It reminded me of a shoot done by Glamor this time last year, only the clothes were more chic and the locations less commercial.  Once again, Anna produced an incredible piece of artwork, and I can tell this will be a favorite for a while to come!

Abstarct

Abstract art confuses me!  I feel stupid when looking at it, because there is usually some art-genius luring next to me explaining their 'theory behind the harsh brush alignment'.  Meanwhile I'm staring at the artwork and mentally picturing a skirt in my metal wardrobe that reminds me of a color of a dot on that painting.  BREATHE.  So when I noticed the particular trend of 'Abstract' in designer collections this seasons, it's easy to see why I immediately ran towards my safety zone - the cosmetic counters.  However, I was recently reminded that just because I can't comprehend something, doesn't mean  I should be afraid of it, or even dislike it.  I don't understand Greek, and I still think it's a beautiful language.  I don't understand Guitar Hero, but I still like it.  So I have succumb to my fears of abstract art and embraced it fully.  In fact, it's nice to know I have sophisticated art in my closet now.

College Fashion!

It's fresh, fun, and is my life condensed in a website.  No, I'm not talking about my blog, I'm talking about College Fashion.com!  It has everything; beauty, style, celebs, advice, and it's ALL created by college students.   I particularly love Kim's posts.  She is a very visual person and j'adore her articles on her fashion icons.  Each controbuter has their own style and hook; inspiration, runway, or shopping online.  These wise words should be absorbed and praised ladies.  Here's the best part!  They are looking for a new writer, so here's the link.  You know I'll be applying!

Camilla Morton

You know how Moms religiously keep all school projects like we keep that pair of skinny jeans we know we'll never be able to fit into again?  Well my mother was showing me a project I completed in my freshman year of high school.  It was a book project based on the book by Camilla Morton, How to Walk in High Heels.  I LOVED the book!  It was super funny, exciting, and inspirational.  So I was compelled to make a pink, glittery, and very girly poster to present to my class.  How cute.....?

America's Next Top Model

Cycle 14 has been a thrill to watch.  I was rooting for Jessica to win, but after arriving in New Zeland, she was sent home for being to 'commercial'.  Krista obviously deserved to win because she is gorgeous and the judges LOVED her.
André Leon Talley, editor at Vogue, was a fabulous judge, and I enjoyed hearing his life-story when he visited the girls in their New Zeland apartment.  The best photo-shoot was the 'Vampire Shoot', which consisted of a bath full of blood and contact lenses that prevented the models from seeing.  Tyra, looking fabulous as usual, took a bold move by wearing jumpsuits to every single elimination.  Each had a different style; asymmetrical, geographic, patterned, block, ruffles, or strapless.  If not Tyra, who else.  Best guest judges included Whitney Port (I <3 The City) and the actress from Lord of the Rings.  This cycle overall was a huge success.  Now I'm just dying to see the next season!

Dressing for a Wedding

"OK.  We need to divide and conquer!"  Weddings can be crazy and hectic, especially when you are in the wedding.  You must be attentive to all guests, make sure catering is a success, and also ensure the bride is not MIA.  What is as important, if not more than the above, is dressing for the wedding.  It's important to look fabulous for the thousands of pictures that will be taken, but its also important to not out-shine the bride.

If you are a bridesmaid: you will probably be expected to buy your own dress, but it will match the number of other bridesmaids.  Dresses are usually fitted months in advance to the actual wedding, so try not to gain any weight between then and the big event.  Although the bride should have the final say, try to get your opinion heard, as some evil brides will often choose a hideous dress on purpose.  In Sex and the City, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda each have a different style and different color dress, but make in the same material.  This provides an security that the dress you are given will be your coloring and fit your figure.

If you are a guest: NEVER EVER, under ANY conditions wear white, unless it's your wedding.  If your closet is set on fire an hour before the wedding and all you are left with is a white suit, go naked, as it would be less controversial.  White accessorizes and jewelry is okay, but wearing a white dress will have you excluded from following weddings for the next century.  Beware of dark shirts as dance floors are unforgiving in the perspiration department.  Makeup should also be applied with the same caution because there might be little opportunity to use the bathroom.  Remember camera flashes can be unflattering as they can reveal see-through outfits (a white bra on display is rather embarrassing) and washed-out faces.  When applying makeup add a little more bronzer, and blush than usual.

Weddings are perfect for meeting new friend, new lover-interests, and old rivals.  Make sure you look your best and have fun!

The Nude Lip!

Originally the cool and casual effect, the 'Au Naturelle Look' has been revamped to a glamorous a la mode.  Not everyone can pull this off, however.  Sometimes simple can be too much for some, but, here are some ways to make the best of this trend.
RULE 1: only Lady Gaga can pull of a lip color that is lighter than her own skin color, so NEVER EVER choose a color that is too light because you will look ill and it will wash-out the rest of your face.

The Kim:
This is very light.  Not for everyone, but if you are interested I used Painterly Paint Pot as a base and Turkish Delight Nars lipgloss on top.

The Blake Lively: This is inspired by the Gossip Girl, so it's slightly more pink.  I used Toché Eclat and Beauty Rush gloss in Bubblegum.  It's more glossy, flirty, and fun.

The Rihanna:  Best used on darker skin tones, this look was created with a Clinique concieler in a darker color followed by Clinique's Pink Bamboo lipstick.

The Hudson:  a little more elegant, just like Kate Hudson.  I used Benefits' Bow maker as a definer and liner so the lips didn't completely disappear.  Next, I used foundation in the Mac color Light.

Be careful!  This look is like Marmite.  The light loves it, or hates it!

Supernova

As any uptight person would tell you, it's hard to relax or remain still and un-productive for longer than four seconds.  But one of the things that does the job for me, is reading in my bath.  Books like How to Walk in High Heels, and Chicken Noodle Soup, offer me inspiration and comfort in all aspects of life.  And what's even more comforting is the new bath ballistics from Lush I've been using.  They are super fun because they create, bubble-ly-ful, colorful, sizzling baths.  The best part?  There is a surprise in everyone!  My ultimate favorite  is Supernova ($3.95).  It is a hot pink, which is my favorite color, and has fun and flirty paper cut-outs of stars and hearts.  How cute?  Watch out for new Lush up-dates because I know this obsession is going to last.

Socks and Heels!

Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz is the essence of enchanting sweetness.  And now the fictional character is inspiring real celebrities in the feet department.  Who'd of thunk it?  Socks and Heels a new hit and stylin' celebs such as Leighton Meester, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Rihanna have been spotted wearing this hot trend.  I wouldn't recommend this trend for daily usage, but for a night-on-the-town is cute, chic, and bold.
